PBS

 

The Liberty! Teacher's Guide provides six lesson plans and videos to correspond with the PBS six-part series Liberty!  The American Revolution.  Each lesson plan includes video resources, text resources, questions, teaching standards, instructional strategies, and extension activities.

Free Tech 4 Teachers

 

The site presents ten resources for teaching about the American Revolution.  Resources include interactive videos, games, maps, and timelines as well as Google Earth tours, iPad apps, and images.  The site compiles valuable resources from around the web into one concise location.

Primary Sources from Library of Congress

 

The Library of Congress offers online scans of rare primary sources found in its collection.  This comprehensive list includes items such as documents from the Continental Congress, map collections, and official papers of Washington and Jefferson.  The site directs users to background overviews of the historical authors and offers information to help users better understand the primary texts.

Outside Sources Recommended by Library of Congress

 

The Library of Congress has compiled an extensive list of online resources available through outside sources.  Certified as credible by the Library, these websites cover a wide range of Revolutionary War topics such as the Boston Massacre Trial and authentic spy letters.

National Archives

 

The National Archives provides select written documents and copies of engravings and paintings related to people and events of the American Revolution.  These resources form teaching materials that include lesson plans, standards correlations, document analysis worksheets, and other activities designed for instruction with these primary source documents.

National Archives:  Charters of Freedom

 

Charters of Freedom website from the National Archives provides photographs, downloadable images, and full transcripts of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.  The online exhibit includes a timeline of the Declaration's creation, detailed histories of the documents, and reflections on the impact of the documents throughout history.  The site also contains biographies of the Constitutional Convention delegates, transcripts of other influential colonial documents, and links to external resources for further exploration.

Teaching American History

 

The American Revolution Interactive Map takes users through the major battles and events of the Revolutionary War.  As users progress through the war, the map offers questions to answer, background information to read, optional documents to study, and additional websites to explore.
