MISSION
To provide elementary teachers with a comprehensive resource for all their Revolutionary War needs!
I am a first grade teacher with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Butler University. During my high school and undergraduate careers, I have had experience teaching students in preschool through sixth grade. Given my personal passion for American history, I wanted to create an exciting, hands-on history unit for my students that will foster that same passion in them. I decided to share my ideas with other educators in the hope that these lessons and resources can help to instill a love of social studies in their students as well! Serving as a one-stop shop, this website includes books, lesson seeds, online resources, and classroom newsletters to cover all instructional needs for a fifth-grade Revolutionary War unit. Thanks to my minor degree coursework in information literacy, I have thoroughly studied bias and credibility in sources and best research practices. I have personally evaluated each website recommended here for author credibility, professional language, relevance, bias, and accuracy. I am confident that these websites are reliable sources that can help students research effectively! For each children's book in the unit, I read reviews from practicing teachers and the School Library Journal to ensure that every selection is an informative and fun read. Lesson ideas have evolved from my personal experience in classrooms and from instructional ideas taught by my professors at Butler University. These lessons combine the best methods and activities for engaging young learners in social studies concepts. There is no website, book, or lesson on this site that I would not use in my own classroom!
Happy history!
